Over 200 Schools Registered in Abu Dhabi Schools Champions Inaugural Season

Technical meeting held in preparation for the November 15 kick-off

Abu Dhabi, UAE – November 14, 2019 – Abu Dhabi Schools Champions, organized by Abu Dhabi Sports Council and in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Department of Knowledge and Education and Inspiratus Consulting Limited, announced the kick off of the inaugural season on November 15, 2019, with 205 schools registered from across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra.

Abu Dhabi Schools Champions is a groundbreaking multi-sports league, reflecting the vision of Abu Dhabi Sports Council to empower youth sports and athleticism while providing a key pillar of talent discovery and development. It also aims to embed healthy lifestyles among school children in Abu Dhabi, while raising awareness about the importance of sports to the community.

Taking place across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi Schools Champions will enable all public and private school children in the Emirate to compete in 7 sanctioned sports: football, basketball, volleyball, handball, athletics, swimming and gymnastics. The league tournament will be executed to world-class standards with team and individual competitions.

An Abu Dhabi Schools Champions technical meeting was held at Abu Dhabi Sports Council offices in preparation for the kick-off on November 15. It was attended by Heads of PE, PE teachers and coaches from public and private participating schools from across the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, alongside referees and volunteers. During the technical meeting, the final schedule and venue logistics were shared, as well as the rules and regulations for each sport, and the code of conduct of the Championship aligned with its overall values, goals and objectives.

ADSC is open to all public and private schools, free of charge, encouraging the youth of Abu Dhabi to be active, gain tournament exposure at world-class standards, provide the opportunity to be scouted by Abu Dhabi clubs, creating a pipeline of athletes for UAE clubs, through a rigorous talent identification platform. Scouts from Abu Dhabi clubs will be present at all games to identify and select talents for their teams. Scouted talents will undergo a selection process with rounds of trials and annual announcements for selected players.

Speaking at the Technical Meeting, Mr. Talal Al Hashemi, Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s Director of Abu Dhabi Schools Champions, said: “We are excited at the Abu Dhabi Schools Champions kick off which will benefit the sports and educational sectors as well as the overall community. It also reflects the vital role of sports in supporting overall development and providing clubs and teams with a pipeline of high potential sports talent.”

Al Hashemi added: “Abu Dhabi Schools Champions is a pioneering sports platform which provides a unique opportunity for youth to play their favorite sports in a highly professional, competitive environment. It will also contribute significantly to raising awareness about the importance of sports and nurturing a sports culture that will become a lifestyle that youth and the community overall adopt for the long run.”

Al Hashemi concluded: ”We hope the inaugural edition will be the spring board to expand Abu Dhabi Schools Champions in the coming years to incorporate additional sports and draw all students interested in exploring their talent in a world-class competition.”

The Finals for all seven championships will be held in Abu Dhabi and will include a community festival with an awards ceremony announcing the winners and recognizing outstanding athletes. Prizes include professional training camps with Abu Dhabi Sports Council’s global partners, trips to see live professional league matches and visit some of the world’s best sports clubs as well as tickets to global sports events organized by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, where they will meet the world’s best athletes.
